Cabbages are a cheap vegetable and a predominant part of European cuisine.
With the ability to be pickled, steamed, stewed, sauteed, braised or even eaten raw, you can get different tastes and textures into many dishes.
Due to the different types of cabbage – Savoy, Spring Greens, Green, Red and White to name a few, it’s now widely available all year round, although still mostly harvested in winter.
In Albania many years ago due to the great climate and the cheapness, it made cabbage the main vegetable choice for this time of year. Villages would smell of cabbage for weeks as people would leave cabbage stews boiling in large pots outside their homes.

LAKRA ME MISH (Cabbage Stew)
Created from basic ingredients this simple, easy to make stew is filled with cabbage and meat then seasoned with chilli flakes and paprika.
