Is it a drink or pudding?
Albanian hot chocolate (Cokollatë e Nxehtë) is a thick, gooey chocolate drink that has to be eaten with a spoon, more like a dessert, but it's all part of the fun! It really does taste like a melted bar of chocolate served in a cup, it's that delicious!
A tradition that you see everywhere in Albania is people sitting in cafes drinking coffees and not so long ago this would be dominated by men. Now, especially in the cities you see groups of ladies, girls, couples and friends taking part, drinking coffees, soft drinks and my favourite drink, Albanian hot chocolate (çokollatë e nxehtë).
I have been trying to recreate the taste and came across a few different ways. This is the closest I have got but will add a recipe when I have it perfected.
3.5 ounces of dark chocolate
2 cups of milk
4 teaspoons of brown sugar
whipped cream to garnish if you wish
Melt the chocolate then add to a saucepan with the sugar and milk. Warm gently, stirring frequently until a thick texture builds. Serve the Albanian hot Chocolate hot!
